JCFEC sponsors book bag sale
The Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center (JCFEC) is sponsoring a book bag sale. The book bags will be filled with school supplies and all proceeds from the sale will be used to fund scholarships for high school seniors. Two $750 scholarships were provided last year to Jessica Head and Mikesha Williams.
Parents may purchase books bags, and anyone may sponsor a book bag for someone through JCFEC. The cost is $15.
The book bags will be available on Aug. 13 during the school system’s Open House.
For more information, contact JCFEC at 982-8004.
VFW to hold fundraiser
Numerous residents of Jenkins County have contacted the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) regarding adding U.S. Flags on the Southside of Cotton Avenue. Also, the VFW would like to purchase two large urns with floral displays to locate in the two circles on the sidewalk on the Southside of Cotton Avenue. Flags and flowers would greatly enhance the appearance.
The VFW is seeking donations for these projects. Donations may be made “in memory of” or “in honor of” loved ones who may have served, or are currently serving, in the military. Donations can be sent to VFW, PO Box 687, Millen, GA 30442.
It is tax deductible and a donor list can be printed in The Millen News, if desired. If made “in memory” or “in honor”, please provide the person’s name.
