Jenkins County School Superintendent Melissa Williams presented the results during the Thursday, July 22, meeting of the Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE)

The percent of students meeting or exceeding expectations for each test was reported as follows: 9th grade literature – 76 percent; 11th grade literature – 73 percent; math I – 62 percent; math II – 26 percent; physical science – 65 percent; biology – 67 percent; U.S. history – 61 percent; and economics – 76 percent.

In other business, the BOE approved a resolution to request a waiver from the Georgia Department of Education that will allow placement of 1-5 additional students over the approved class size limits if needed. Local school systems are permitted to request waivers as a means of dealing with reduced state funding.

It was announced that the school system’s pre-planning meeting would be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Jenkins County High School cafeteria to recognize Teachers of the Year, Partners in Education and new staff. Breakfast will not be served.

Other actions taken by the BOE included the following: • Approved student handbooks; • Tabled a life insurance proposal;

• Approved fundraising activities for all three schools;

• Accepted the resignation of JCMS/JCHS cafeteria manager Melissa Bolton;

• Approved changes in coaching staff;

• Approved resignation and employment of bus drivers; and • Approved reduction of bus drivers’ local supplement to cover 10 calendar reduction days.
