Syl-View Happenings

By Betty Scarborough Activity Director

The days are so hot, and we are thankful for the cool air here at Syl-View for the residents. The flowers in the court yard have not fared so well in this heat. We have changed our lobby display to fruits and sunflowers as we look ahead to the fall.

Marcie Brannen, our state teen volunteer of the year, will be dancing at nursing homes in Metter and Statesboro this week. We are proud of our volunteers of all ages. Macie is a teen who gives much time and talent.

Anita Thompson, our oldest volunteer, comes two or three times a week. She assists with Bingo, parties and special events. She brings items for the residents to enjoy and brings memories of yesteryear. She brings flowers, vegetables and helps provide refreshments. She has been a volunteer for more than 30 years and has been a state and national volunteer of the year. She ministers to residents, volunteers and staff.

We are grateful for every one of our volunteers and are looking forward to adding new ones in the month of August.

We are looking forward to the awards banquet to be held in Savannah when Macie and The Master’s Club of Sylvania will be honored as state volunteers of the year. We are also in the top three for total community involvement and in special community involvement. We will receive first, second or third place. These awards are based on the scrapbook of our community activities and The Millen News is one of our volunteers.
