Monica Broxton named top teacher
Monica Broxton is the systemwide teacher of the year.
Jenkins County has a new top teacher. Jenkins County Middle School’s (JCMS) Teacher of the Year, Monica Broxton, was named the syst
em-wide Teacher of the Year during the school system’s preplanning meeting held Aug. 10.
Mrs. Broxton came to JCMS in 2001. She is a 1995 graduate of Jenkins County High School (JCHS) and a 2000 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor of science degree in Education. She completed her master’s degree in education in 2005 from Walden University in the area of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment. She and husband Chris have been married 10 years and have two sons, Colby, 9, and Paul, 3. She is a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, and her parents are Brenda and Joseph (Bunny) Johnson.
“Teaching is not a job. It’s a mission,” said Mrs. Broxton in her remarks.

All Teachers of the Year were presented a plaque of appreciation by Jenkins County School Superintendent Melissa Williams as follows: Melissa Cobb, Jenkins County Elementary School; Mrs. Broxton, JCMS; and Col. Kenneth Wade, JCHS. Randy Hill of the Millen Rotary Club also presented each of the teachers with a savings bond.
