Syl-View Happenings

By Betty Scarborough

Macie Brannen, Syl- View’s Teen Volunteer of the Year who won the Volunteer of the Year for the Georgia Healthcare visited two nursing homes and entertained last week. She danced and sang at Azalea Nursing Home in Metter on Friday night, and the residents were enjoying fun. We were so proud of Macie’s performance. She had a large number of family present. The night was stormy, but there was love and laughter as Macie danced and sang her way into the hearts of residents.

On Saturday afternoon, Macie visited Brown Nursing Home in Statesboro. Macie clogged barefoot as the floor was carpeted but even without the tap of the shoes, the residents were clapping and moving their bodies to the beat of the music. One male resident rose to his feet with the help of his walker and began shuffling his feet to the rock and roll music of Elvis.

Macie is open to invitations to entertain at any of the nursing homes in the area that would welcome her. You may contact me, Betty Scarborough, at the Syl-View Health Care Center in Sylvania to make arrangements for a visit.

We were thrilled to receive a quilted lap wrap from Cindy Waters of Conyers. Cindy is a faithful volunteer who uses her talent to help raise money for the activity fund. Cindy is a native of Screven County.

Mr. and Mrs. David long gave memorial gifts to the activity fund in loving memory of Waldene and Cecil Pye and Elizabeth Doyle.

We have been able to keep the flowers in the courtyard alive even with the extreme heat we have experienced. We appreciate every love gift to the activity fund. We are grateful for a cool nursing home, and we continue our fun happenings. You are invited to join in the fun.
