City to seek GEMA grant
The City of Millen will apply for a grant to be used to purchase a backup generator for City Well #1. Millen City Council approved the action during a recent meeting.
City Manager Lamar Faircloth explained that the grant would be sought through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and would require that the city provide 15 percent in matching funds. The cost of the generator would be approximately $51,149 with the city’s match being $7,672. The matching funds would be paid from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax
SPLOST) IV account.
In other action, Council approved a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute purchase contracts for two parcels of property at the city’s waste water treatment project site, subject to approval and allocation of grant funds by the USDA.
Approval was given for the purchase of a truck, not to exceed $10,000, for the Public Works Department and a ladder fire truck for $5,000 with funding for both to come from the SPLOST V account.
Other actions taken by council included approval for the purchase of an advertisement in the Athletic Booster Club sports program for $125 and approval for the renewal of contract with Jenco Industries.
