JCHS to hold School Council Election
for parents
Jenkins County High School (JCHS) has scheduled a School Council Parent Election for 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in the school media center. Parents will be elected to serve on the council for the school year. Parents or guardians of students enrolled in JCHS are eligible to serve as parent members of the school council. The law excludes parents of students in the school who are also employees of the school system, who work at JCHS, to be eligible to serve on the council.
If you have questions concerning the school council, contact Dr. Joseph Kirkland at 982-4791 or come by the school office. All eligible parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and participate in the election.
JCFEC to host meeting
Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center invites the public to attend the organization’s collaborative meeting 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Millen United Methodist Church social Hall.
The guest speaker will be Dr. Stuart Babcock.
Job Fair to be held Sept. 22
The Georgia Department of Labor will sponsor a Job Fair 10 a.m. until noon, Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center, 434 Barney Avenue.
What to bring: resumes, picture ID, Social Security Card, pen/pencil, smiles and professional attire.
Employers are accepting application. All job seekers are welcome to attend. Remember, your appearance is important!
Jenkins County Recreation Department
announces programs
Baton lessons will begin Sept. 13 for girls in 4th grade and up. Beginners’ class will be from 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Returning students’ class will be from 4:15 p.m.- 5 p.m. on Mondays in the recreation gymnasium. Lessons are free, but students must purchase a baton. The instructor is Jane Johnson.
Karate classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. for ages six and up. Classes are held in the recreation gymnasium. Cost of the class is $40 per child plus cost of uniform. The instructor is Terry Langston.
Football registration is being held until Sept. 16 for ages 4-13. The Cost is $40 per child. Flag football for boys and girls ages 4-6; Flea boys, ages 7-8; Tackle, Bantam Boys, ages 9-10; Tri-County boys, ages 11-13. Tri-County boys will travel. Parents are responsible for transportation.
Fall softball is getting underway for girls, ages 7-16. These teams will travel to surrounding counties on Saturdays Oct. 2- Nov. 13 for Round Robin Tournament.
The cost is $55 per girl. This includes jerseys, pants, visor and socks. You must provide transportation to and from games. The deadline to register is Sept. 6.

JCSFS observes Grandparents’ Day Jenkins County School Food Service will celebrate Grandparents’ Day at the Jenkins County Elementary School cafeteria. Grandparents are invited to eat breakfast with their grandchild(ren) Thursday, Sept. 9, for grades kindergarten, 2nd and 4th, and Friday, Sept. 10, for grades Pre-K, 1st, 3rd and 5th. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. Pre-k eats at 8:30 a.m.
The cost of an adult breakfast is $2. Please contact Debra Herrmann at the Jenkins County Board of Education or Debra Brinson at the elementary cafeteria for further information.
