Officers canvassing the area came into contact with two of the offenders and observed one suspect drop a firearm and flee the area. Officers were able to identify the fleeing suspect as Jones and recover the weapon, a rifle, he dropped. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the rifle was stolen from a vehicle at a third Ada Drive residence.

MPD officers arrested Jones at his residence Aug. 22. He confessed to the thefts and implicated two juveniles who also took part in the crimes. The juveniles were in possession of the two pistols that were stolen when they were picked up by officers.
