Syl-View Happenings

It was a Fun Night happening that brought joy and laughter to the residents. We had Glen Walden singing Elvis songs in memory of Judy Starkey. Judy loved the Elvis music and had attended a number of his concerts. Judy went home to be with the Lord this week and Fun Night was dedication to her memory. Some of the residents were singing along. Others were dancing and moving to the music in their chairs. There were smiles on the faces of the residents, family members and volunteers.

Memorial Baptist Church members served ice cream cones, and the young people from the church added to the fun as they moved to the music. We are so proud of our young volunteers, Jordan Zeigler, Amanda Long and Macie Brannen, as they add so much to Fun Night.

Macie, our 2010 Teen Volunteer of the Year, sang and danced as the reporter from The Statesboro Herald was preparing a feature story on Teen Volunteer of the Year for Georgia Health Care. We are so proud of Jordan, Amanda and Macie who all have won this honor for Syl-View Health Care Center.

Jerry Hunter, faithful volunteer, was lending a helping hand, and he is a member of the Master club who won State Group Volunteer of the Year. They will be recognized at the awards luncheon in Savannah on Oct. 4. Macie will be presented with her plaque at this luncheon.

We enjoyed great happenings this past week as the women of Newington United Methodist Church hosted the August birthday party. They served birthday cake and ice cream from a table decorated with fresh red roses and scented pillar candles. The birthday song filled the air, and there was joy, wonderful joy, at the celebration.

John Malphus went out with his sister for lunch on his birthday. He joined in the singing on fun night as this was his birthday.

Opal Hill visited her son, David, this week, and we remind you to send cards to brighten the days of our residents.

We appreciate the interest of the people of Millen and Jenkins County. We are looking forward to having you visit Syl-View, and we welcome groups to entertain our residents. Just give me a call, and we will include you on our calendar of activities.

Thanks for caring and sharing for our beloved residents.
