Produce Market to continue into fall

The Tuesday Produce Market will continue into the fall. Vendors will be at the Cotton Market Park on Cotton Avenue from 3:30-6 p.m. until October.

JCES School Council to meet Sept. 9

Jenkins County Elementary School will hold its first School Council meeting 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in the school cafeteria. The purpose of this meeting will be to elect parent representatives for the 2010-2011 school year.

Dickey reunion to be held Sept. 18

The Dickey family reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at Big Horse Creek Baptist Church social hall, 1267 Buttermilk Road. The business meeting starts at 11 a.m. with lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Attendees should bring a couple of covered dishes and drinks to share. Ice, plates, cups, napkins and eating utensils will be provided.

Jenkins County Recreation Department

announces programs

Baton lessons will begin Sept. 13 for girls in 4th grade and up. Beginners’ class will be from 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Returning students’ class will be from 4:15 p.m.- 5 p.m. on Mondays in the recreation gymnasium. Lessons are free, but students must purchase a baton. The instructor is Jane Johnson.

Karate classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. for ages six and up. Classes are held in the recreation gymnasium. Cost of the class is $40 per child plus cost of uniform. The instructor is Terry Langston.

Football registration is being held until Sept. 16 for ages 4-13. The Cost is $40 per child. Flag football for boys and girls ages 4-6; Flea boys, ages 7-8; Tackle, Bantam Boys, ages 9-10; Tri-County boys, ages 11-13. Tri-County boys will travel. Parents are responsible for transportation.

Fall softball is getting underway for girls, ages 7-16. These teams will travel to surrounding counties on Saturdays Oct. 2- Nov. 13 for Round Robin Tournament.
