Eagles take down Redskins

By Staff Reports

The Jenkins County Eagles won their first game of the season last Friday after beating Bryan County 14-6.

The Eagles were first to strike late in the first quarter. A 16- play, 67-yard drive set up the first touchdown of the game when James Prescott found his way to the end zone. Remi Gomez kicked the extra point, giving Jenkins County an early 7-0 lead.

Just before the half, Deyshon George intercepted a Redskin pass, giving the Eagles excellent field position. However, a fumbled snap took away Jenkins County’s opportunity to widen their lead. The Eagles entered the locker room with a 7-0 lead.

During the third quarter both teams struggled to gain significant yardage and traded possession of the football. Neither would put any points on the board as the quarter came to an end.

Midway through the fourth, the Eagle offense came alive. A 10-play, 60-yard drive ended with Will Brinson sneaking into the end zone, giving the Eagles a 14-0 lead.

The Redskins struck late in the game with a big 51-yard pass, which set up their only touchdown of the night. The Eagles blocked the extra point attempt and prepared for the onside kick. After recovering the kick, the Eagles ran down the clock and took their first win of the season 14-6.

Jenkins County has evened their record to 1-1 and will host Savannah Christian during their home opener this Friday night.
