Fair-on-the-Square to be held Oct. 2

The annual Fair-on-the-Square will be held 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, on the Jenkins County Courthouse square.

Arts and crafts featured will include: etched glassware, leather goods, handmade jewelry, woodcrafts, University of Georgia logo items, honey, Christmas decorations, handmade pottery and custom t-shirts. There will also be a variety of baked goods and other foods. New to the fair this year will be an area featuring vintage antiques.

Georgia Southern University will have an exhibit pertaining to the artifacts discovered at Camp Lawton. Kevin Chapman, who made the discovery, will be on hand to discuss the findings and future plans.

The Azalea Garden Club will sponsor a Standard Flower Show in conjunction with the fair. The location and time will be announced at a later date.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. with entertainment beginning at 11 a.m. featuring local and out-of-town performers. Anyone who desires to participate in the parade should contact Cindy Linder at (478) 982-3274.

Throughout the day there will be games and fun rides for children and the young at heart.

For the safety and enjoyment of all, pets, silly string, shaving cream battles, wrestling and playing ball will not be allowed in the fair area.
