Lacy B. Frye Jr., 81, of Millen died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010.

Funeral Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at Union Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Tony Smith and Terry Joyner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Frye was born on January 22, 1929 in Millen to Lacy B. and Kate Drake Frye.

He was a graduate of Midville High School and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated from Southern Tech in Chamblee.

Mr. Frye was a civil engineer and a registered land surveyor. He was Assistant Division Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Tennille until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Frye managed Midville Motor Company for several years and later served as Executive Director of the Millen-Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Frye was an active and faithful member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, having held many offices over the years which included Chairman of the Administrative Board, Church Treasurer and Trustee. He was active in Sunday School, the United Methodist Men and served for many years on the Magnolia Manor Board. Mr. Frye was a Mason and a member of the Order of Scottish Rite.

He served on the Millen-Jenkins County Development Authority, was a member of the Jenkins County Historical Society and was a charter Trustee for the Bark Camp Church Association.

Lacy Frye was well known for his knowledge about the local history of the Herndon and Midville communities. He enjoyed his 1929 Model A Fords, working on his family farm near Herndon and breakfast each morning at the Midville Cafe.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nell O. Frye; two sons Lacy B. (Melanie) Frye III of Swainsboro and Haywood Drake (Tricia) Frye of Millen; three grandchildren, Meagan M. Frye of Millen and Peyton Wade (Brooke) Frye and Zachary Drake (Leah) Frye of Swainsboro; and a great-grandson: Lawson Wade Frye.

Pallbearers will include: Chris Carr, Carson Cross, Larry Johnson, Math Johnson, Gary Spence, Johnny Hurst, Chesley Flanders, and Joey Burch.

Honorary escorts will include: M.A. Drake, Jerry Cross, Gary Curry, George Holloway, Dean Drake, Wilson Smith, Bobby Dwelle, Edward Wilson, Bennie Thurmond, and Jim Lewis.

Crowe-Fields Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
