Jenkins County School Superintendent resigns

Melissa Williams Melissa Williams Jenkins County School Superintendent Melissa Williams has resigned, effective June 30. Her resignation was formally accepted during Monday night’s meeting of the Jenkins County Board of Education.

Mrs. Williams began her career with the local school system in 2006 as Curriculum Director, and she became School Superintendent in October 2008. She leaves Jenkins County to accept a position as school superintendent in Towns County, Hiawassee.

Mrs. Williams praised the community and school system staff for their support and dedication during her tenure here.

“This community has been so welcoming and accommodating,” she said.

“We have done some good things here, and the system has good leadership in place. I believe everything will be okay,” she added.
