The Chatter Box

By Deborah Bennett

My husband has a flock of guineas that roam our property at will, making shrill, ear piercing noise that often leads me to complain. Their favorite spot to gather is beneath our bedroom window. So, I am often awakened from a sound sleep by their “packracking” as I call it. They are an alarm clock that never fails to go off at daybreak!

However, I came to realize recently that “noise” can be a matter of perception. Our little grandson Ty was visiting when, as we sat on the back porch, the flock of guinnies ran across the yard making their usual excited sounds. He started clapping his little hands, and proclaimed, “Singing, singing.” What I consider annoying “noise” was beautiful “music” to him.

I have had to reconsider my opinion of the guinnies since then. Ty’s innocent remarks reminded me that all of God’s creatures are beautiful – even noisy guinnies!
