The Chatter Box

By Deborah Bennett

I recently had to go get new glasses. It is a chore I put off for as long as I can, because I always have trouble adjusting to the new ones. This time it is particularly difficult as I opted for the no-line bi-focals because, as the technician put it, “Lined bi-focal glasses are almost obsolete” and it would “help with computer work.”

Well, I guess, she can add me to her list of “ancient” and “obsolete” devices. I should have remembered that popular adage – If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The new glasses are driving me crazy!

They are fine for driving, and reading, when I am sitting still. But anyone who types knows that you are constantly moving your head back and forth from the computer to the copy you are typing. The minute I move my head even slightly, everything starts spinning and I get dizzy. Walking with the glasses on is also difficult. I tend to stagger and bump into things.

So, if there are typos in the newspaper for awhile, please overlook them. And if I bump into you on the street, please excuse me. Getting accustom to these “new fangled” glasses may take awhile!!
