Super Eagle Day set for March 10

Super Eagle Day will be held Saturday, March 10, at the Jenkins County Courthouse Square. Activities will get underway at 8:15 a.m. with the Fun Run, and the 5K race begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $10 for Fun Run, $15 for 5K and $20 for both events. Late registration on the morning of the event is $12 for Fun Run and $20 for 5K. Watch The Millen News for additional information.

Job Fair to be held

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Augusta Career Center will sponsor a job expo Thursday, Feb. 16, in Burke County. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Augusta Technical College, located at 216 Highway 24 South in Waynesboro. The event will feature a number of employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers. Some employers will be hiring, while others will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers, and other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings, including part-time, full-time, entry-level, supervisory, and management positions. Employers, resource agencies, and educational institutions expected to participate in the job expo include: Amerigroup Community Care, Augusta Technical College, Briggs and Stratton Corporation, Corrections Corporation of America, Georgia Power Company, Manpower, The Home Depot, and the Waynesboro Police Department. Millen native to star in film

Feisty Nannette Willis is a natural as Zora Neale Hurston in the

film Harlem Memories, which premieres in Atlanta, at 5 p.m. Sunday Feb. 26, in the Rich Auditorium of the Woodruff Arts Center. Ms. Willis was born in Millen, but spent much of her life in Brooklyn, New York. She actually began her acting career through the spoken word, dazzling audiences throughout the metro Atlanta area with poetry performances of her own creation. Miss Willis also models.

Jenkins County Rec. Department news

Tumbling classes are being held 4 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the Jenkins County Recreation Department. Classes are based on age and ability of the students. Students will be taught stunts, dance and cheers. Fee is $60 per month; discounts will be given for sibling take the class. Instructor is Shelby Burke. T-ball, Baseball, Softball registration is now being held. Deadline is Feb16, and the fee is $40 per child. T-Ball is co-ed for ages 3 & 4 Year olds. Rookie League is co-ed for ages 5 and 6 year olds. Players will be pitched to by the coach. Flea League is for 7 and 8 year olds. Girls’ fast pitch softball and boys’ baseball pitching machine. Mite League is for 9 and 10 year olds. Girls’ fast pitch and boys’ baseball pitching machine. Live pitch for girls and boys, ages 11-14 years.

Lions Club to host Pancake Supper

The annual Lions Club Pancake Supper will be held 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the Millen Community House. For tickets, contact any Lions Club member.

JCHS holds Black History Celebration

The Jenkins County High School Black History Celebration will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb 9, 2012 at the Jenkins County Ag Center. The guest speaker will be Dr. Fionn Thomas, a native of Jenkins County. Dr. Thomas is currently practicing dentistry in Statesboro, Ga. Please make plans to attend.
