Chamber yard sale and cook-off

Mark your calendars! Saturday, May 5, is the date set for the Millen- Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce area yard sale and barbecue cook-off. The event will take place at the Cotton Market on Cotton Avenue 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Spaces for the yard sale are $10 each. Teams for the cook-off may sign up now. Cash prizes will be awarded and plates will be available for $7. For additional information, call the chamber office at 982-5595.

Music program planned for Perkins

A gospel/country music program will take place at the old train depot in Perkins 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28. The featured group will be Cissy and Foxfire Band. Admission is free. Bring your own chair.

Relay for Life to be held May 11

The annual Jenkins County Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society will be held Friday, May 11. Teams are forming and volunteers are needed. To participate or volunteer, contact Claudette Sasser at (478) 494-0292.

Workshop at Magnolia Springs

An Amphibian Monitoring Workshop will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at Magnolia Springs State Park, Millen.

Want to learn about Georgia’s rich diversity of amphibians and help protect lakes, streams and wetlands? Georgia’s Adopt-A-Stream will teach you about volunteer salamander and frog monitoring. It’s bound to be a hoppin’ experience. Bring boots or shoes to get a little muddy and a headlamp or flashlight to look for frogs. Parking fee of $5 applies. BOE to meet April 16

The Jenkins County Board of Education will meet 6 p.m. Monday, April 16, at the central office. The public is invited to attend.
