The Chatter Box

By Deborah Bennett

Two of my grandchildren were registered for Pre-K last week. I can’t believe it. They were just babies yesterday. I am afraid if I blink they will be graduated high school and headed off to college.

I don’t recall my own sons growing up that fast. It seemed like they were little forever and that their school days would never end. Now, they are grown with children of their own. I know that is the way life works, but the speed of passing time still takes me by surprise.

I just want to slow things down a bit and enjoy the wideeyed innocence of my grandchildren for as long as possible. The lyrics of a song by Jim Croce express my feelings very well.

“If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I’d like to do, is to save every day, till eternity passes away, just to spend them with you. If I could make days last forever, if words could make wishes come true, I’d save every day like a treasure and then, again, I would spend them with you.”

Unfortunately, that is not possible. I can’t stop time or my grandchildren from growing up. But I can enjoy every day I’m given with them and make some memories that will, hopefully, last throughout their lifetimes.

Happy birthday this week to: Lindsey Bennett, Paul E. Herrington, Debbie Johnson, Steve Hodges, Brandon Carroll, Janice Cheney, Joe Griffin, Beth Collins, Amber Adams, Emily Sammons, Bernard Thompson, Joe Bob Law, Bailey Brown, Baker Jenkins, Racheal Johnson, Josh Bazemore, Robbie Reynolds and Stacie Jackson.
