VFW to sponsor shoe drive Local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2776 will conduct a shoe drive for homeless veterans 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, April 27, in the Eagle Pharmacy parking lot on Winthrope Avenue. Shoes will be delivered to the VA Hospital in Dublin in support of their homeless veterans program. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

Leroy Clayton and Depot Dudes to perform April 27 Leroy Clayton and the Depot Dudes will be performing 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Perkins Depot. Admission is free and refreshments will be available. Bring your lawn chairs and insect repellent and come enjoy an evening of family entertainment.

BI-LO stock shelves with pet food at local food banks Through Tuesday, April 30, BI-LO will host its fourth annual PAWS “Feed the Love” campaign. This is a pet food drive in which food donations go to local area food banks for families in need to be able to provide food for the 4-legged members of their families. Shoppers can purchase a $5 bag of pet food with the BI-LO bonus card and the food will be picked up by or delivered to the store’s food bank partner. The bag contains a week’s worth of dry and canned packages of PAWS premium, BI-LO’s own brand of high quality cat and dog food. For every bag purchased, BI-LO customers will receive an additional 5 cents per gallon in fuel perks, BI-LO’s program that saves customers money on gas just for buying groceries.

Millen Milers and More to meet April 25 Millen Milers and More will hold their next meeting at the Millen/Jenkins County Recreation Department track 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25. Members invite everyone interested in fitness through walking and/or running to attend. You will have the opportunity to learn what the club offers: information and instruction on how to begin a walking/running program, how to attain fitness goals, how to prepare for your first race should that be a goal and how to improve your personal nutrition. Rite Aid to sponsor Community Yard Sale May 4 The local Rite Aid Pharmacy will sponsor a Community Yard Sale and Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, May 4, in the store parking lot. Come sign-up and reserve your booth: $10 single and $15 double. All proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network for children’s hospital, Augusta. For more information, call 982-2297.

Area Wide Yard Sale and Barbecue Cook-off to be held May 4. The annual Area Wide Yard Sale and Barbecue Cookoff will be held 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in the Cotton Market Park on Cotton Avenue. Registration fee for yard sale is $10. Ogeechee Area Hospice’s 17th annual Children’s Grief and Loss Camp: “Camp Lily Welle” will be held 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 4, for ages 6-12 at the Statesboro First Baptist Church. Keep Jenkins Beautiful cleanup day is April 27 Keep Jenkins Beautiful cleanup day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. Volunteers should meet behind the Jenkins County Courthouse to pick up supplies. Recyclable electronics may be placed in a trailer on site.

24th Annual Earth Day at Magnolia Springs State Park. Magnolia Springs State Park will celebrate Earth Day, Saturday, April 27, with educational programs offered in the picnic area of the park. Beginning at 9:30 a.m., visitors are invited to visit the Lasar Shot Simulator, EPD’s presentation on water quality, Steve Burke’s discussion of Native Americans and Steve Kyles’ program on animals in the natural environment. Georgia Southern’s Archaelogy Department will have an Archaelology Day in the dig area of Camp Lawton. A special feature will be a visit from The Georgia State Parks gopher.
