Dear Editor:

I am a former resident of Jenkins County, and I was personally offended by Ms. Williams’ comments in The Millen News (May 7, 2014). If Ms. Williams is insinuating racism is involved on the part of our school system during the hiring or promotion process then she is deeply mistaken.

Our superintendent has never knowingly hired nor promoted a person in the school system that has a child that attends Edmund Burke Academy or any other private school. It’s just that when she hires them, then they move their child to a private school after the fact. So, it’s not Mrs. Cooper’s fault. She can’t help the fact that the person changes their child’s school once she gets hired. It is a fact Ms. Cooper is a person who serves as an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal, state, or local law. Please do not suggest that our school has an undertone of racism involved in its hiring.

Before we all start blasting a person or our school system, we must get our facts straight. Our school system has several administrators that are not just of the white race. Let’s be unified. Go Eagles! Greg Edenfield Waynesboro, GA
