Library News

By Sharon Blank

October is here, and that means cool weather, falling leaves - and of course, Halloween! If you’d like some ideas for making your All Hallows Eve “spooktacular”, come to the library. We have all sorts of books and magazines that will give you all sorts of ideas for costumes, decorations, meals and more!

Do you love to look at beautiful flower arrangements? Take a few minutes away from Fair on the Square this Saturday, Oct. 4, and step into the library to check out the Garden Show being put on by the Millen Garden Club! The library is open from 10:30 am until 2:30 pm on Saturdays.

On Tuesdays at 4 p.m., we have a great program for your kids - our story and craft time! Kids listen to a story and then do a craft based on that story. Our next story and craft time will be on Oct. 7, when our story will be “The Leaf Man” by Lois Erlert. Then Oct. 14, we’ll listen to “When Autumn Falls” by Kelli Nidey.

Our next “How It’s Done” workshop will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at 12:30 p.m. We’ll be learning to make candy and caramel apples, yum! It’s the perfect treat for fall, and the workshop is free. Thank you to BI-LO of Millen for generously supporting this program.

The library will be closed on Columbus Day, Monday, Oct.13.

New at the library – “The Cool Girl’s Guide to Knitting: Everything the Novice Knitter Needs to Know” by Nicki Trench. This isn’t just another pattern book - it’s all you need to know to get started knitting all sorts of projects! Find out what you’ll need to get started, how to figure out what happened if something doesn’t turn out the way you’re expecting, and everything you need to know to begin knitting. It explains things in plain English, offers fun and funky patterns, and even tells you how to start a knit group and why you might want to be part of one!

Well, that’s all for now - see you at the library!
