John Mack Jenkins

Mr. John Mack Jenkins, age 82, of Statesboro died Tuesday evening, September 23, 2014 at his residence under the care of his family and Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson with Rev. Wade McBride officiating. Interment was in the Eastside Cemetery.

The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was the son of the late Samuel William Jenkins and Effie Sellers Jenkins. He was a 1948 graduate of Marvin Pittman Laboratory School and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Following high school, Mack began his career as a cable splicer with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph and during this time the company became BellSouth Communications and later AT&T. He retired in 1992 following 38 years of dedicated service. Additionally Mack was a lifelong farmer; he farmed the family farm in Bulloch County and raised cattle until he retired due to his health, four years ago.

He loved the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting and fishing and the best of those times were the ones he spent with his grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins was a long-time member of the Leefield Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 35 years.

Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Corinne Jenkins; a brother, Eugene Jenkins and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Bonnie Jenkins, Ethel and Jack Sapp, Charlotte and Henry Zetterower and Dorothy and Howard Lewis.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Juanita Oglesby Jenkins of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Jenni Jenkins of Statesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Randy Anderson of Statesboro, Jennifer and George Redmon of Rincon and Trisha and Billy Gray of Martinez; a sister, Shirley Jenkins McCllean of Helen; three step-daughters, Theresa Faye Sasser, Debra and Lewis Perryman and Judy and Jeff Joyner, all of Millen; a step-son, Wally Sasser, Sr. and Sherrie Sasser of Millen; 11 grandchildren, Amanda and Wayne McQuaig, Abby and Adam Donaldson, Wally Sasser, Jr. and Tara, B.J. Sasser, Jill and Matt Bazemore, Chester Joyner, Jennakae A. Jenkins, Bryce Joyner, Justin Gray, C. Mackenzie Jenkins and John M. Jenkins; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Beverly Barker of St. Augustine, FL and Patsy Ankorge of Tallulah Falls; a nephew, Sammy Jenkins of Lilburn and his loving care-givers, Vicki Jones and Barbara Montgomery.

Pallbearers were Wally Sasser, Jr., B. J. Sasser, Trey Sasser, Matt Bazemore, John M. Jenkins, Justin Gray, Chester Joyner and Bryce Joyner.
