Retired SFC Benny Lee Shatten

Retired SFC Benny Lee Shatten entered into rest on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Palmetto Health Medical Center- Columbia, SC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Salters Grove Baptist Church - Millen, Georgia. Pastor Inmon Godbee will officiate, with Elder Ulysses Barber presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors.

Mr. Shatten was a native of Jenkins County, but lived in Columbia, SC for over forty years. He was loved dearly by his family and friends. He never met a stranger; his jokes and sense of humor brought smiles and laughter to everyone in his presence. He fought a good fight throughout his extended illness. He will be missed but not forgotten; his loyalty and generous, free-hearted spirit are his legacy to family and friends.

Mr. Shatten is survived by four daughters: Calandra Brown, Hephzibah, GA; India Jones-Hill, Augusta, GA; Dana and Yolanda Shatten, both of Columbia, SC. two stepsons: Ernest Bell, Columbia, SC and Alton Sapp, Sr., Atlanta, GA. six sisters: Bobbie Jean Bradford, Savannah, GA; Roberta (Baby Doll) Hicks, Augusta, GA; Mary (Anthony) Jones, Augusta, GA; Martha Moore, Millen, GA; Eula Owens, Brooklyn, NY; Minnie Lee Tolbert, Vidalia, GA; one brother: Robert (Carolyn) Shatteen, Danville, GA. Fifteen grandchildren: Latia Anderson, Dequan Bell, Andréa Brown, Timothy Carter, Kahlil Davis, Kion Davis, Kahwayne Eliza, Azaria Hill, India Hill, Samuel Hill, Paul Johnson, Jr., Bryanna Leaphart, Johnathan Leaphart, Tiarra Leaphart, Melanie Wise; two great-grandchildren: Cristian Key and India Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Dwight’s Funeral Home is in charge of services.
