Millen man dies, another injured in Waynesboro accident

A Millen man was injured and another was killed in a traffic accident in Waynesboro on Saturday, March 31st.

At about 12:50 p.m. a 2001 Dodge Durango traveling in the left eastbound lane on South Liberty Street left its lane and crossed into the westbound lane and struck a tractor-trailer head-on.

The driver, Geraldine Lockhart, 54, of Wrens suffered fatal injuries from the crash. A backseat passenger, 49-year-old James Newton, of Millen, was also killed.

The front seat passenger, Willie Lee Emory, 45, also of Millen, was seriously injured and taken to an Augusta hospital by the Burke County Emergency Management Agency.

The driver of the truck, Slovenian Native Dzevad Nogie, of Port Richey, Florida, was not injured.

The accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
