Saturday, April 29th, will be a big day in Millen! Several events are planned for the day, and local citizens are encouraged to come out, bring their friends and support these activities.

Rite Aid to sponsor fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network

The local Rite Aid store will sponsor its annual fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network this Saturday at the store, 804 E. Winthrope Avenue. One hundred percent of all funds raised on Saturday will go to the children’s hospital in Augusta. Activities will include a yard sale and other events. Drop by the store to reserve a yard sale spot. Annual BBQ Cook-off and Yard Sale

The annual BBQ Cook-off and Yard Sale, sponsored by the Millen/Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday in the Cotton Market Park on Cotton Avenue. Prizes in the Cook-off will be awarded in the following categories: Best Pork – 1st place-$500, 2nd place-$250, 3rd place-$150; Best Chicken – 1st place-$100; Best Sauce-$100; Best Ribs-$100; Dessert – 1st place-$100, 2nd place-$75, 3rd place - $50. Registration forms are available at the Chamber office on Cotton Avenue and must be returned by Wednesday, April 26th. There will be no exceptions. Call the Chamber office at 982-5595 to reserve a Yard Sale space for $10 or for more information.

Vaccination Clinic to be held in Cotton Market Park

Jenkins County K-911 rescue group will sponsor a Vaccination Clinic 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 29th in the Cotton Market Park, Cotton Avenue. Rabies shots will be $15 and yearly boosters, $10. Rabies is a viral disease of mammals, usually occurring among wild animals such as raccoons, skunks, bats, and foxes. The rabies virus travels from the site of the bite up through the nerves until it reaches the brain, causing encephalopathy and ultimately death.
