Students are expected to begin attending the new PreK-12 school currently under construction adjacent to Jenkins County High School in August 2018. Jenkins County School Superintendent Tara Cooper said the new school will be completed during the 2017-2018 school year.

“However, we have decided against moving during the school year. So, we will be starting in the new school August 2018,” she said.

The new facility features a 2-story building with different entrances that will allow for separation of elementary aged students from middle/high aged students. It is being funded through a Department of Education Facilities Division Low Wealth Grant at an estimated cost of $2.2 million. Local contribution for the project is $3½ million which is being funded with Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) revenue. The one-cent sales tax was approved by voters in 2013.
