Hattie Inez Scruggs Chafers

Mrs. Hattie Inez Scruggs Chafers, beloved centenarian, reached the 100-year milestone on December 31, 2016. She entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family, under the watchful care of Gentiva Hospice. This gentle spirit spent most of her life in Jenkins County, where she was a member of Nannie E. Williams United Methodist Church for over 88 years. She was the matriarch of her family, church, and community.

She leaves to cherish her memories, 4 daughters: Willie Mae (Ezekiel) Dukes, Sr. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Corrine (James) Saunders (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Victoria Kimotho (Millen, GA), Ernestine (Otis) Pinkney (Millen, GA); son, John (Angela) Reddick; step-daughter, Francis Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, FL); 31 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 36 great, greatgrandchildren; niece and nephew, Donnie Scruggs Moore and Billy Joe Scruggs.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Nannie E. Williams United Methodist Church; interment was in Westside Cemetery – Millen.
