Our Summer Reading Program is almost here! This year’s theme is “Build a Better World,” and we have lots of fun activities planned for all ages. We’ll be starting with our kickoff, featuring magician David Ginn, on Tuesday, June 6, at 2 p.m.

Every Wednesday during the summer, starting on Wednesday, June 7, at 1 p.m. we will have a great weekly “Teen Space” program, where we’ll show the older kids and teens how to make cool stuff and do cool projects like stop-motion animation.

Before that, though, we have a fun activity for the adults – our “Paint @ the Library” adult painting class. We’ll be painting a summery beach scene that will make you want to grab your beach blanket and sunscreen every time you see it.

Our monthly Lego Day will be on Monday, May 22, at 4 p.m. Your kids can come in and make awesome Lego creations that we’ll put on display until our next Lego Day.

Every Tuesday at 4 p.m. we have a special storytime for the kids. It’s a great way to help your kids learn to love reading. This Tuesday, May 23, we will be talking about Memorial Day. Next Tuesday, May 30, we will share stories of fun at the beach.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 29, for Memorial Day.

New at the library – “The Night the Lights Went Out” by Karen White. Merilee Dunlap and her two children have just moved to the Atlanta suburb of Sweet Apple after her divorce, but the transition isn’t easy. An anonymous blog has shared all the messy details of why her marriage failed, and starting over again is never a picnic. But she’s found some peace at the cottage she’s renting from town matriarch Sugar Prescott, and a friendship develops between them. As Sugar tells stories of her own colorful past, Merilee finds a new perspective on the town and her relationships with the people in it.

Well, that’s all for now – see you at the library!
