Commissioners propose 2017-2018 budget with no tax increase

Jenkins County property owners will not see an increase in their 2017 county property taxes. During a recent meeting of the Jenkins County Commissioners, the group presented the county’s FY 2017-2018 budget with no anticipated tax increase.

The Commissioners have not sought a tax increase since 2009, and then it was only a 0.145 mill increase. The FY 2016-2017 budget allowed for a 0.5 mil decrease.

The budget is available for review at the Commissioners’ office located in the Jenkins County Annex, 833 E. Winthrope Avenue. Citizens may review the budget during the normal business hours of 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

A public hearing is planned for 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the Annex to answer any questions concerning the budget. A special called meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 to propose adoption of the FY 2017-2018 budget.
