Millen man involved in Burke County accident

A Millen man was among those involved in a 2-vehicle accident that occurred in Burke County on June 15th on Highway 25 North near Winter Road at 12:15 p.m.

A 2015 Mack truck, driven by David Edward Jenkins of Millen, was traveling on Hwy. 25 North when it topped a hill and collided with the rear of a slow moving 2004 Ford Expedition that was also traveling in the southbound lane. The Ford was driven by Ronnie Irvin of Waynesboro and may have been experiencing mechanical difficulty, a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson said. There were four passengers in Mr. Irvin’s vehicle.

The impact resulted in the Ford leaving the roadway and overturning, coming to a stop upright. Five persons were injured, including children, and were transported to an Augusta hospital for treatment of injuries. Mr. Jenkins was not seriously injured.

Hwy. 25 was closed for several hours as a result of the accident and all traffic was diverted as the accident scene was cleared.

The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
