Lottie Alice Smith Godbee

Lottie Alice Smith Godbee, age 96, of Millen died June 13, 2017 at Optim Medical Jenkins.

She was born in Nichols, Georgia, February 19, 1921. After graduating from Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia, May 25, 1937, she came to Jenkins County to teach at the Red Hill School on a Wartime Emergency Teachers Certificate for elementary grades. Boarding with Stephen S. and Hattie Magnolia Royal Godbee, she met and married their son Lloyd Emory. Together they started a dairy farm operation near the Godbee home place, which they worked faithfully until Emory's death in 1973. After a time she worked at the Jenkins County Training Center until retirement.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, The Reverend Clarence Ethen and Lottie Coleman Smith, and brothers and sister: The Reverend Whyte Roster (W.R.) Smith; Delores Smith Woosley; Donald Roy Smith; Charlie Mathew Smith; Andrew Jackson Smith; The Reverend Clarence Ethen Smith, Jr.; and her sons Thomas Garnet Godbee and Donald Elliot Godbee.

A devoted Methodist, she joined the Millen United Methodist Church October 21, 1951, and as one of the oldest members, served in many capacities.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Millen United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Millen Cemetery.

She is survived by daughters Jan Godbee (Edward) Wilson, Leigh Ann Godbee (Ken) Diffenderfer, daughter in law Susan Waters Godbee, nine grandchildren and eighteen grandchildren.
