Jack Bethel Jack Bethel Jack Bethel, 35, of Millen is facing charges stemming from a Tuesday, June 20th, shooting incident with a Jenkins County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Jenkins County Sheriff Robert Oglesby said the deputy responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun on Hermans Road around 8:30 a.m. when he encountered Bethel, who was on his way to his residence. The deputy requested that Bethel lie down on the ground and put the gun down. Instead of complying with the request, Bethel went for the gun and the deputy shot him twice in the left arm.

Bethel was transported to an Augusta hospital for treatment of his injuries. He has been released and is being held in the Jenkins County Jail with charges pending. The deputy is on administrative leave.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted and is conducting an investigation of the incident.
