No tax-free weekends in Georgia

Citizens across the state accustomed to shopping for school items on sales tax free weekends will not get that sales tax break this year. The state’s lawmakers failed to pass legislation to provide for any 2017 tax holidays, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue.

The annual back-to-school tax-free weekends have been used in the past by teachers, students and parents, to save money on school supplies, clothes and electronics prior to the start of school. This year’s tax-free weekend had been scheduled for July 29-30.

Legislators say stopping the sales tax free weekend will save the state tens of millions of dollars.
