Bloodmobile to be here July 31st

To celebrate National Ice Cream Month, the first 50 presenting donors at the Rite Aid Pharmacy blood drive on Monday, July 31, 1-6 p.m. will receive a gift card for a free blizzard at the local Dairy Queen in Millen.

July is National Ice Cream Month and with daily temperatures climbing into the 90’s, a cool refreshing Dairy Queen Blizzard would go a long way to help manage the heat! In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. President Regan, like many of us, recognized ice cream as a fun and sometimes, nutritious food that is enjoyed by many people.

Shepeard Community Blood Center would like to thank the many blood donors in the Millen Community for their loyalty and sacrifice shown by their frequent commitment to blood donations. The community has responded to our appeals for blood when supplies are low and patients are in need by rolling up their sleeves and giving the “gift of life.”

If you are healthy and well, weigh at least 110 pounds and are at least 17 years old, we encourage you to come out to the blood drive and be someone’s hero by donating blood. If you are 16 years old, you may donate with a signed parental consent form. All donors will receive a free Shepeard t-shirt, free health screening and post-donation refreshments. Please don’t forget to bring your Shepeard Blood Donor Card or picture ID, when coming to donate.

Shepeard would also like to publicly acknowledge and show appreciation to the 17 heroes who came out to donate blood at the June blood drive at Rite Aid Pharmacy. Thirteen units of life-saving blood were collected, thus saving thirty-nine local lives! Thank you to the following people for rolling up their sleeves and giving selflessly: Lisa Steptoe, Robert Johnson, James Bennett, Patricia Allen, James Bethel, Angela Delay, Lafanta Bonner, Jennifer Rojas, Michelle Robertson, Donico Allen, Deanne Brannen, Lloyd Litwiller, Cindy Zetina, David George, Carsia Ivery, Tonia Davis and Heather Holland.

Galloneer donors: Joseph A. Burkeand Tamladge R. Harris, 1 gallon; Tamia G. Lovett, 2 gallons; and David L. Waters, 8 gallons.
