It’s less than a month before the big event of the year – the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21! For the first time this century, we will have a solar eclipse right here in Georgia, and we are among the lucky few who can see it right from our own front yards. It’s the first total eclipse visible in our area since the 1970s, so you will not want to miss it… but you will want to learn how to view it safely, without damaging your eyes or your children’s eyes. Keep your eyes peeled for our Eclipse Preview event, too. We’ll have special guest speaker Wayne Burke telling us how to view the eclipse safely, a craft for the kids, and you can pick up your free eclipse glasses, courtesy of the library.

Do you know “How It’s Done”? It’s our free adult workshop, and it will be on Saturday, August 5, at 12:30 pm. We will show you how to make pottery that you can use to hold your pens or decorate your shelf or windowsill.

Every Tuesday at 4 pm we have a wonderful afternoon storytime for the kids. They can listen to a fun story and do a cool craft. This Tuesday, August 1, we will be telling tales of back-to-school adventures. Next Tuesday, August 8, we will be going under the sea for stories about the creatures who live beneath the waves.

On Saturday, August 12, at 12:30 pm we will have a Teen Space Craft for teens and older kids. They can learn to make fragrant, fizzy bath bombs to make bath times fun.

The Jenkins County Memorial Library Board of Trustees will be meeting at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 26, in the Ruth Newton Spiers Boardroom of the library. The Screven-Jenkins Regional Library Board of Trustees will be meeting at 4 pm on Thursday, July 27, at the Jenkins County Memorial Library.
