Mrs. Asenath S. Evans, County Welfare Director, says that eight applications for Old Age Assistance have been approved by the County and State for Jenkins County. These eight applications are to receive assistance for the month of July. Twelve other applications have been approved by the local board and are awaiting approval by the State. These twelve will be eligible for assistance in August. The total amount of assistance in July for Jenkins County will be $94.

The County Commissioners have appointed Mrs. N.M. Reynolds, wife of Newt M. Reynolds, deceased, as Tax Collector until a special election can be held. Mrs. Reynolds will run for the office in the special election.

The bale of 1937 Georgia cotton sold at auction to J.A. Logan and Sons at 15 cents a pound.

E.D. Fletcher is named President of Millen Civic Club and Jack Johnston is named Secretary.

Social Security officials reported today that Georgia’s average monthly payment of $12 to the needy aged is $6.63 below the national average.
