( Staff photo by Deborah Bennett) The Jenkins County High School Band has big plans for the new school year and thanks to the sponsorship of Queensborough National Bank and Trust Company, some new equipment. The bank recently purchased a Schumacher XP2266 and two Shure Digital Wireless Microphone Systems for the band.

James McBride, JCHS band director, said the device will be used for field power for sound equipment on the field, wireless microphones for singers and a bass guitar. The addition of singers and a bass guitar is expected to enhance the band’s performances.

Mr. McBride expressed appreciation to the bank for its sponsorship, noting that the equipment would make it possible for the band to perform without electrical lines on the field.

There are currently 60 students in the JCHS band and Mr. McBride expects to recruit 30 more from the sixth grade class. The marching band has about 35 members. He also has plans for the band to enter several band competitions throughout the school year.
