County suspends Troy Gay as county attorney

The Jenkins County Board of Commissioners suspended the outcome of charges filed against him.

Mr. Gay, who also serves as Jenkins County Solicitor, is charged with Aggravated Assault and Cruelty to Children. The charges stem from a domestic dispute that occurred on June 4th at his residence.

Hiller Spann, speaking on behalf of the Commissioners, said, “The charges against Mr. Gay are serious and though everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, we felt a suspension was warranted. We are sure that the District Attorney’s office will investigate the charges thoroughly and decided whether or not to proceed with the indictment process.”

Commissioners Pam Dwight, Cynthia McNeely, and Hiller Spann voted for suspension.

Commissioner Spann noted that the Board of Commissioners is searching for an interim County Attorney and the selection process is underway.
