(Staff photo by Deborah Bennett) Joyce- Hodges- Hite, widow of Jim Hite, a former educator, runner, civic leader and Millen News columnist, has written a book to commemorate the life and legacy of her husband. A book signing for “We’re Going the Wrong Way, Again Jim” was held Thursday, Aug. 17th, at The Charm Barn. Mrs. Hodges-Hite gave a brief reading from the book at that time that included the following excerpt.

“In a world where ‘I’ is the most important pronoun, Jim’s motto was ‘you’ first. He was proud of what he’d been able to accomplish, but he was more proud of the letters he received from folks who recognized those things he’d been successful in. Separately both of us had made marks in the worlds of education, running, administration of running and other events, music, and church work. But together our influence had more than a single facet each. Together we made a whole – a diamond, I hope.”

“And when I look back on our time together, that ‘wrong way’ does not speak merely of direction, of different lifestyle, of different viewpoints, but of different attitudes about the same experiences others have. His ‘you’ philosophy changed me and many others he touched.”

Mr. Hite died Sept. 3, 2013.

The book is available for purchase from Mrs. Hodges- Hite for $12.95. All proceeds will go the Jim Hite Scholarship Fund.
