Days to fly the Confederate flag in October

Fly your Confederate Flag on October 6th, the birthday of Sam Davis. He was born on October 6, 1842 in Rutherford County, Tennessee and died on November 27, 1863 in Pulaski, Tennessee. He was a Private in the 1ST Tennessee Infantry and a Scout for Coleman’s Scouts who gathered information about Union forces.

Public invited to Daylily Program

The Millen Garden Council composed of the three local garden clubs, Green Thumb, Magnolia, and Millen, will sponsor a program on Daylilies on Thursday, October 12, at 6 p.m. at the Millen Baptist Church Social Hall. The program on the culture and growing of daylilies will be presented by Charlie Shaw, owner of Shaw's Sunshine Gardens in Augusta. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and door prizes will also be given. A donation of $5 is requested for those attending who are not members of a local garden club. June Thomas, Oleander District Director, will also be attending to meet members and give them a brief insight of Garden Club of Georgia, INC state and district activities.

Free transportation to Southeastern Technical College

Free transportation for Jenkins County residents to the Swainsboro campus of Southeastern Technical College (STC) will be discussed at an information session to be held 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12th at the Jimmie C. Douglas Agricultural Center on Barney Avenue in Millen. STC Admissions Office staff and representatives from the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce/Development Authority will be present to answer questions and explain the program. Anyone who applies to STC at this event will have their application fee waived.
