Hagan Phil Cowart

Millen - Hagan Phil Cowart, age 82, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, October 2, 2017, in Savannah Georgia.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, his love for The Lord was evident in the life he lived each day. A native of Millen, Georgia, he was born March 2, 1935, to the late Seaborn Nathaniel and Sarah Hagan Cowart. He was preceded in death by his brother, Grover Cleveland Cowart, and his sister, Myrlene Cowart Taylor. Mr. Cowart graduated from Jenkins County High School in 1954 and graduated from the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a funeral director for over fifty years and was employed with Crowe Fields Funeral Home, Thompson Strickland Waters Funeral Home, and Clark-Shaw Monument Company. He was a member of Scarboro Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jean Dwelle Cowart; daughters, Jeana Cowart Jenkins of Millen, Laura Cowart Deal (Jim) of Statesboro; six grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, and his beloved pet, Ollie the Cat.

Active pallbearers were men of Scarboro Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers are members of the Portal Hunting Club.

The service was held at Millen Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Preceding the funeral, the body lay in state at 2 p.m. in the church's sanctuary for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if so desired, may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 9420 Blackshear Highway, Baxley, Georgia 31513 and Scarboro Baptist Church, 4204 Scarboro Church Loop, Millen, Ga 30442.
