Mary Sue Durden Newton

Millen, GA-Mary Sue Durden Newton, age 83, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Medical University Hospital in Charleston, SC.

She was born in

Emanuel County, was a retired owner of The Vanity Box ladies clothing store which she ran for over 30 years, and was an active member of Elam Baptist Church.

A celebration of her life was held at 11 a. m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Jody Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the Elam Cemetery.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son, Dewey Newton, II (Laura) of Statesboro; three daughters, Dr. Sandra Freedman (Murray) of Augusta, Marsha Newton-Graham of Charlotte, NC, and Brenda Newton Hodgin (Jay) of Thompson; a sister, Billie Greco (Al) of Tampa FL; seven grandchildren, Scott Hodgin (Mary Beth), Allen Freedman (Kathryn), Stacy White (Perry), Will Graham (Heather), Kate Graham, Anna Newton, and Abby Newton and 10 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Howdy McTeer, Hud McTeer, Britt Claxton, Nick Johnson, David Adams, Horace Weathersby, and Jaye Lee.
