DOT suspends lane closures for Thanksgiving holiday

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced today it will suspend construction-related lane closures on interstates and primary roads to ease Thanksgiving holiday travel.

Lane closures will be restricted from 6 a.m., Nov. 22 through 5 a.m., Nov. 27, with some long-term lane closures remaining in place.

“As people visit friends and family for the Thanksgiving holiday, and shop on Black Friday, we anticipate heavy traffic,” said Georgia DOT State Construction Engineer John D. Hancock. “For easier and safer travel we are limiting construction and associated lane closures.”

The department asks drivers to exercise caution as crews may be working in close proximity to highways.
