Wade Parker, University of Georgia (UGA) Cooperative Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources program development coordinator for the Southeast District, has been awarded the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences D.W. Brooks Award for Excellence in Extension.

The D.W. Brooks Awards, established in 1981, honor the best of the best in UGA CAES and are named in honor of UGA CAES alumnus, faculty member and agricultural leader D.W. Brooks.

Parker’s award was presented at a ceremony held in conjunction with the CAES annual D.W. Brooks Lecture in Athens, Georgia, on Nov. 7.

Parker has spent his entire career committed to the mission of UGA Extension. He worked as a county 4-H agent, a county coordinator and an Agriculture and Natural Resources agent in Mitchell and Jenkins Counties before advancing to his current position.

Throughout his years with Extension, he has worked with researchers from across CAES and farmers across his region to produce on-farm research data that has literally changed the way farmers work and saves them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Parker also uses his Extension expertise to impact the lives of farmers outside Georgia by traveling to Haiti in 2012 to train farmers and Extension personnel.

His inventive programming and devotion to his field make him an asset to the state of Georgia and beyond.
