(Photo contributed) The Jenkins County School System (JCSS) has demonstrated its commitment to instructional excellence by improving instructional practices through the selection, induction, support, and retention of qualified instructional and support personnel. The JCSS Induction program is a professional learning program specifically designed to support newly trained and / or hired educators. A viable Induction program provides support for new teachers and seeks to retain highly qualified teachers. Induction teachers, teachers with less than three years of teaching experience, participate in the JCSS Induction Professional Learning Community (PLC) and are assigned school-level mentors.

Because JCSS has a strategically developed teacher leader network, a group of teacher leaders form the leadership team that facilitates the JCSS Induction Program. System level staff and teacher leaders incorporate the work of planning and facilitating training sessions. Federal and state funds are used to fund the JCSS Induction Program. Monthly face-to-face training sessions are designed to strengthen the skills of our new teachers in areas such as parent communication, classroom management, and instructional strategies such as instructional technology integration and formative instructional practices.

The 2017 - 2018 JCSS Induction Leadership Team is led by Cynthia Drake, a veteran teacher with over 21 years of classroom experience. Mrs. Drake is assisted in this work by Renee Hearn and Monica Brinson, both veteran teachers with more than 20 years of experience. Assistant Principal Shelby Williams provides leadership support for this talented team.
