Qualifying begins March 3 for May election

Qualifying as a candidate in the May 22nd General Primary and Non-Partisan Election will be held 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. March 5-8 and from 9 a.m. until noon on March 9. Qualifying will take place at the office of Jenkins County Probate Judge Wanda Burke on the first floor of the Jenkins County Courthouse.

Seats up for election in the General Primary are: State Court Solicitor and Jenkins County Commissioners, Districts #2 and #5.

The State Court Solicitor position is currently held by Troy Gay. The Commissioner District #2 seat is currently held by Pamelia Dwight and the District #5 seat by James Henry. The qualifying fees for these positions are: State Court Solicitor - $576.12; and Commissioner - $126.

Positions to be elected in the Non-Partisan Election are State Court Judge and Board of Education members, District #2 and #5.

The State Court Judge position is currently held by Hubert Reeves III. The Board of Education seat for District #2 is held by Mike Reese and District #5 by Danny Bennett. The qualifying fee for State Court Judge is $635.20 and the fee for Board of Education members is $90.
