Jenkins County Middle/High School students win band positions

Blake McBride and Christopher Cicconi Blake McBride and Christopher Cicconi Jenkins County Middle High School students, Marqes Smith and Blake McBride, passed a rigorous audition to win positions with the Georgia Music Educators Association District One Honor Bands. Their stellar performance was on February 3 at the Armstrong Atlantic State University Fine Arts Center in Savannah.

Judges, from around the state, auditioned over 1,000 band students to form three 90-member bands. Among titles performed were “Pulsation” by R.L. Saucedo, “Beauty and the Beast” by Menken/Ashman, “Irish Tune from Country Derry” by Percy Grainger, and “Shadow Rituals” by Michael Markowski.

Smith’s middle school conductor was Ms. Audrey Murphy whose bands have performed at UGA, GMEA, and the “Music for All” National Concert. McBride’s conductor was Dr. Christopher M. Cicconi, Director of Bands and Orchestras at Towson University and Towson Symphony Orchestra who has guest conducted in several locations which include Argentina, China, and the U.S.

Marquis Smith and Audrey Murphy Marquis Smith and Audrey Murphy JCMHS hopes to have several more students qualify next year. Smith is the grandson of Sandra Wright and McBride is the son of James and Amy McBride.
