Larry G. Griffin

Larry G. Griffin was born in Glennville, GA to Slater Griffin and Eardean Griffin. He was one of five siblings: Lt. Col. Evelyn Griffin, Clyde Griffin (wife Madalyne Griffin), Maridean Waters (fiance' Dail Moore) and Herman Griffin (wife, Becky Griffin).

Larry grew up living on a farm in South Georgia hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Larry graduated from Glennville High School; afterwards, he attended Georgia Southern. Larry, then, attended technical school in Pennsylvania, where he developed his trade of being a dental technician. While working in Millen, GA, Larry met the love of his life, Gail. Larry married Gail in August, 1968. Together they moved to Temple, GA where Gail gave birth to three wonderful children, Tonia, Shannon and Shane.

As the family grew, so did Larry’s business, Griffin’s Dental Lab. Larry was preceded in death by his son, Shane Griffin. Shannon married Steve Matheson and Tonia married Eric McIntosh. Tonia and Eric gave Larry two beautiful grandchildren, Savannah McIntosh and Slater McIntosh. Shannon and Steve followed with two more beautiful grandchildren, Taylor Matheson and Bo Matheson.

Larry loved his grandchildren with all of his heart and could not wait to get his grandbabies on his John Deere tractor. As the grandkids grew, Larry began to pass on his love for the outdoors. Slater took to the outdoor life with his Papa. Slater was his right hand when it came to hunting, fishing, shooting skeet and farming. Larry passed his love of shooting to other children through the Haralson County 4-H Shotgun Team. Larry loved spreading his knowledge of hunting and skeet shooting to others. Larry passed May 9, 2018 in his home surrounded by his wife, daughters and grandchildren in his home in Bremen after battling a form of brain cancer.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Because of his love for shooting, instead of flowers, Larry requested donations to one of the following: Haralson County 4-H (on the check’s “for line” write Shotgun Team and the address is P.O. Box 10, Buchanan, GA 30113) or you can donate to West Georgia Young Range (in the checks “for line” write Larry and their address is P.O. Box 861, Buchanan, GA 30113).

Services were Sunday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Minister Allen Howard officiating. Grady Jenkins, Robert McDonald, Craig Green, Ben Bentley, Ricky Hudson and Paul Hague served as pallbearers. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
