(Photo contributed) At the August monthly meeting of the Jenkins County Board of Education, the Board donated a surplus school bus to the Millen-Jenkins County Fire Department for training purposes. The Fire Department will use the bus for training the full time and volunteer firemen. The types of training will include rescue training and fire training. By having the bus to use for training the firemen can familiarize themselves with the seating configurations and emergency exits locations on the bus.

A Georgia School Bus is the safest mode of transportation for students and Georgia has the most stringent codes and specifications for a school bus in the nation. The donation of the School Bus is another way that Jenkins County Board of Education is progressive in Safety Training, both for the students and for the community first responders.

The keys to the bus were presented to Grady Lambert of the Millen Fire Department by James D Bennett, Chairman of the Board of Education.
